Prefabs were designed in the 1950's as a quick and easy solution to a shortage of homes. When this prefab was brought to Sandtoft it was set up as the museum Café and souvenir shop. When the Café closed, the shop enlarged whilst the old kitchen area became the museum traffic office. However, once the shop moved into the newer Axholme Stores building, the building became redundant and was used temporarily as a store. Then, over the winter of 2001/2 it was restored to look like the home it would once have been. At the same time, the office facilities in the rear of the building were expanded.
